The Litigator and The Peacemaker

Joel is a litigation attorney with a wide range of experience in all realms of the dispute process. Joel has over 20 years of experience practicing in both Nebraska and Iowa, with a wide practical experience in multiples areas of law including, insurance law, creditors’ rights, bankruptcy and litigation. In his career, he has represented financial institutions, banks, insurance companies, small and large businesses. He frequently represents individuals and companies dealing with creditor rights issues, bankruptcy representation, personal injury, and property damage litigation, wrongful death, subrogation, and product liability issues. Joel works closely with clients to achieve their litigation goals and helps them navigate and create strategies for every aspect of the dispute process.

Joel was born in Omaha and raised in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Practicing law runs in the Carney family as his grandmother was the first female magistrate judge in the State of Nebraska in Minden, Kearney County, Nebraska. His father was also an attorney licensed for over 40 years in Scottsbluff. Joel attended law school at Creighton University in Omaha, where he first met Jeana Goosmann, the firm’s CEO and Managing Partner. During this time, Joel and Jeana worked closely as part of the Iowa and Nebraska Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. After law school Joel gained vast experience as a private practice attorney. 17 years later, Jeana recruited Joel to become Managing Partner of the firm’s Omaha office – and the rest is history!

“I love my job because every case in litigation is unique and challenging. I pride myself in getting solid results for my clients and keeping them involved every step of the way,” Joel says.

Joel is an active member of the American Bar Association and the Iowa Bar Association and has held multiple leadership positions in the Nebraska Bar Association for decades. Joel is a Panel Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.
