Sioux City Lawyer in Divorce and Family Law

Protecting What Matters Most – Your Family and Your Rights.

Janell Broekemier is a Sioux City family law attorney ready to protect your rights and secure your family’s future. Her experience with complicated family law matters, combined with her legal knowledge, provides the highest level of protection and peace of mind her clients desire. Janell focuses on helping her clients navigate this challenging time in their lives so they can come out on the other side, free and ready to start over.

No matter whether you’re in need of advocacy in Iowa divorce law, or issues dealing with property division, parental rights, or other issues related to divorce law, Janell is standing by, ready and prepared to fight for you, or to help de-escalate a contentious situation and facilitate a settlement without going to court. Janell will assist through every phase of a family law case, including business valuations, income and asset discovery, marital and nonmarital property division, child custody, child support, alimony, and domestic violence issues. Janell also serves clients in areas of gestational surrogacy, adoption, and legal guardianships. She offers a no-nonsense, solution-focused, and results-driven approach to obtain the best possible case result for you. Janell understands what you may be going through and not only has the legal knowledge and skills to help you, but also the commitment to treating you with compassion, professionalism, and respect.

One of Janell’s primary passions centers around the representation of military service members and their spouses. A military divorce presents its own set of distinct challenges, in part due to the interplay between the highly complex federal and state laws that govern this type of divorce. Janell is uniquely qualified in this area and has represented members and/or their spouses in all branches of the military, including those on active duty and in the reserves. In addition to the typical divorce issues of property division and child custody, the military divorce services that Janell provides includes tackling the issues and questions related to BAH, jurisdiction, retirement and pension benefits, disability income, and the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.

Janell believes that family relationships are among the most vital in life, and that is why she is committed to protecting what her clients value most – their family and their rights.

Janell began her legal career in 2014, where she started out as a family law paralegal, working side-by-side with seasoned family law attorneys and learning the ins and outs of the trade. Janell quickly discovered how much she loved working in the field when she saw the difference she made in the lives of others, and thereafter committed herself to becoming a family law attorney.

Janell started with Goosmann in 2020 as a law clerk while completing her Juris Doctor at the University of Nebraska College of Law, where she was specially recognized for her pro bono work, mediation skills, legal writing skills, and trial advocacy. Janell is licensed in both Iowa and Nebraska.

Janell’s “Why”
