Missouri River Flooding

As you are well aware, the Tri-State area experienced massive flooding, including Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, South Sioux City, Nebraska and Sioux City, Iowa among others. Due to the levees and emergency plans, the actual damage was much less than what was previously expected.  Nonetheless, individuals, families and businesses are trying to recover and attempt to return to normalcy.

Disaster Assistance Hotline Activated to Help Victims of Missouri River Flooding

The ISBA disaster legal assistance hotline has been activated. Victims of the Missouri River flooding in the five counties – Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Monona, and Pottawattamie — of southwest Iowa can call (877) 775-8882 and request free legal assistance.

The program is the result of an agreement between the ABA Young Lawyers Division, FEMA and the state bar association in the affected state. West Des Moines attorney, Bob Gainer, is the District 19 representative for the ABA Young Lawyers Division, which includes Iowa and Nebraska. “Due to the President’s declaration for disaster, Iowans in these five counties can now obtain relief through FEMA for the damages they have incurred, and can use the ISBA hotline for questions they may have,” Bob says.
